Halogen ovens use the latest advances in heating and cooking technology to produce delicious food in a faster amount of time and using much less energy than a conventional oven.  They are also very compact and can sit on your counter top and used without needing to heat up a large oven.

How It Works

A halogen oven consists of a glass bowl with a lid that contains a high powered fan and halogen bulbs.  The way it works is the halogen heating elements produce high heat.  The fan then circulates the hot air over and around the food to cook it quickly and evenly.  Foods can be cooked at lower temperatures but still take far less time to cook than when using a conventional oven due to the impressive technology that is contained within a compact kitchen appliance. It can sit on your counter top and is easy to use, clean, store and transport.

Halogen ovens can roast, broil, grill, bake, air-fry, steam, barbecue or dehydrate food, with no need for preheating an oven or defrosting your food.  Halogen ovens are also much less expensive than a conventional oven, with many costing less than $100.

Halogen Oven Benefits

  • Reduced cooking times.  Your food will cook around 50% faster using a halogen oven than it will using a conventional oven.
  • Save on electricity.  You save in two ways: by using lower temperatures to cook and through the reduction of overall cooking time.  You can save up to 75% more energy with a halogen oven than with a conventional oven.
  • Cooks food more evenly .  Air is forced with a fan and channels hot air around your food which helps to cook it more more evenly.
  • Seals in the juices and keeps foods moist without cooking unevenly or drying your food out the way a microwave sometimes does.
  • No need to defrost.  Food can be taken directly from the freezer and placed into the halogen oven to cook.  When you buy your meats, clean and season before freezing.  Then they are ready to go when it's time to cook.
  • Easy to clean.  Most halogen ovens are self cleaning.  This feature can be used in combination with wiping out the glass bowl and exterior and then placing the bowl into the dishwasher on occasion.
  • Saves space and is portable.  A halogen oven is small, compact and can easily sit on your counter top or be stored away when not in use.  Although compact you can still cook a good amount of food in them, such as a medium chicken with vegetables.  They are great for students, RVs, or to use for large meals as an extra oven.  A halogen oven is also very portable and can be taken to potlucks, family gatherings or other occasions.
  • The use of a glass bowl makes it easy to keep an eye on your food while it's cooking and rotate it or adjust cooking times as needed.
  • No need to use oils or fats for cooking.
  • Doesn't heat up the kitchen.

How To Use a Halogen Oven

Although halogen ovens do use new, advanced technology you don't need any special recipes to use one. The only things you will need to adjust is the cooking temperature and cooking times. Most halogen ovens will come with instructions. You can also buy a halogen oven recipe book to help guide you.

As a rough guide you can try reducing the cooking temperature by about 10% and check your food at about half the time suggested for a conventional oven. There is some trial and error involved, but once you gain some experience you will be amazed at how easy and convenient it is to cook with a halogen oven. Remember to use often safe dishes such as pyrex and metal.

Cleaning a halogen oven is very easy. Many do have a self-cleaning feature. You can also hand wash the bowl or place it in the dishwasher from time to time to keep it well maintained. Remember the lid contains the heating elements, so this should not be submerged in water.

Halogen ovens offer many important benefits, including saving you time and money. It can be reasonably argued that it's the best cooking invention since the microwave oven.

These halogen ovens look awesome. I had an apartment when I was living overseas that wasn't large enough for a conventional oven and I've never really cared for microwaved meat. Would have been nice to have one of these back then!

I was reading this on another site. "Far Infrared is simply a form of gentle, invisible radiant heat. It penetrates the inside of foods while also cooking from the outside, leaving foods moist and full of flavor. This concept is similar to the warmth of the sun’s rays felt on our skin. As a matter of fact 80% of the sun’s rays consist of these infrared rays. The same principle applies to the Halogen Oven, only on a smaller scale. Restaurants have been using this technology for years to keep foods warm." http://www.halogenovenhq.com/ I have been trying to figure out what this does to the nutrients?
